Teenage sensations Tanvi Sharma and Ayush Shetty stormed into the finals of the US Open Badminton 2025 — a BWF World Tour Super 300 event held in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Tanvi, just 16 and ranked World No. 66, delivered a commanding performance against seventh seed Polina Buhrova of Ukraine, winning 21-14, 21-16. In doing so, she etched her name in the history books as the youngest Indian to reach a World Tour final. A product of the BAI’s National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, Tanvi’s giant-killing run included wins over second seed Thuy Linh Nguyen and former Junior World Champion Pitchamon Opatniputh.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Ayush Shetty scripted a sensational comeback against top seed and World No. 9 Chou Tien-Chen. After losing the first game narrowly, 21-23, the young Indian rallied to dominate the next two games 21-15, 21-14, in a 67-minute thriller, earning his maiden World Tour final appearance.
Tanvi will now face top-seeded American Beiwen Zhang, while Ayush takes on Canada’s third seed, Brian Yang, in what promises to be a blockbuster finale.
These landmark achievements signal the dawn of a promising new era in Indian badminton, powered by fearless youth and national pride.
