A heightened security alert was declared in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Sunday night after a suspicious vessel—believed to display Pakistani markings—was sighted drifting roughly two nautical miles off the Korlai coast near Revdanda.

Security officials reported spotting a red light on the boat during routine surveillance, prompting immediate deployment of the Raigad Police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Quick Response Team (QRT), Indian Navy, and Coast Guard.

Superintendent of Police Anchal Dalal led the on-ground monitoring efforts. Despite repeated attempts to reach the vessel, rough seas and intense rainfall delayed direct investigation. Dalal, who attempted to approach the boat via barge, had to return due to inclement weather conditions.

According to preliminary reports, authorities suspect that some individuals may have disembarked before the vessel drifted closer to shore. In response, multiple checkpoints were established across the coastal area as part of precautionary containment.

With the monsoon presenting both security and navigational challenges, the origin of the vessel remains under investigation. Intelligence agencies are examining all angles, including a possible infiltration attempt.

This incident comes amid broader security concerns along India’s western coastline, especially given recent geopolitical tensions in the region. Authorities are expected to issue an official statement as soon as the investigation progresses.
