Chandigarh: A bureaucrat was fatally shot inside a court in Chandigarh allegedly by his father-in-law, who is a suspended Assistant Inspector General of Punjab Police.
The victim, Harpreet Singh, served as an IRS officer in the irrigation department.
It is alleged that there was an ongoing domestic dispute between the victims and the accused’s families, leading both parties to the Chandigarh Family Court for a related hearing.
During a mediation session, the accused, Malwinder Singh Sidhu, asked to be excused to use the restroom, and his son-in-law, Harpreet Singh, offered to guide him. Shortly after they left the room, five gunshots were heard.
Sidhu fired five shots, two of which struck Singh, causing him to fall to the floor.
Lawyers present at the scene apprehended the accused, confined him to a room, and alerted the police, who have since detained him.
