The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, on Saturday convicted Biharilal Tajan, Former Head Clerk of the office of BDO, Gurundia Block, for misappropriation of government rice.
Odisha Vigilance charge-sheeted Tajan under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 409/471/477-A IPC. Investigators proved that he manipulated official records and falsified the Rice Stock Register to misappropriate rice amounting to Q.1094.
The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000. Moreover, Vigilance officials confirmed that they will move the competent authority to stop his pension following the conviction.
The judgment underscores Odisha Vigilance’s continued drive against corruption in government offices. Furthermore, it highlights accountability measures being enforced against retired officials found guilty of financial irregularities. Consequently, the verdict sends a strong message about transparency and integrity in public administration.
