Soubhagyabanta Sahu, a former Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) of Panchamahala Gram Panchayat under Ulunda Block, Subarnapur district, has been convicted in a bribery case and sent to jail.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, sentenced Sahu to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted him in Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No.44 dated June 1, 2018, under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Investigators proved that Sahu demanded and accepted a bribe from a beneficiary to release the third instalment of funds for his Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) house under the Rural Housing Scheme. Despite being disengaged from service, Sahu was held accountable for his corrupt practices.
Following the conviction, authorities immediately sent him to jail to serve his sentence. Vigilance officials emphasised that the judgment reinforces the state’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring transparency in welfare schemes.
