Ujjain: Several people, including women and children, were injured when a stampede-like situation occurred at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.
According to sources, the situation went out of control as several people thronged to the temple along with the VIPs, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former chief minister Uma Bharti, which affected the crowd management.
The incident took place at gate number four of the temple. After much jostling and pushing, the security cordon gave way and people simply rushed in. Several tumbled down and others fell over them.
A video of the incident shows even policemen being overpowered while some devotees also engaged in physical violence.
Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It opened last month for devotees who had received at least one shot of Covid-19 vaccine or carried a negative RTPCR report.
