Colombo: Sri Lanka’s top court on Friday barred former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa from leaving the country without permission until July 28.
Mahinda’s brother and former finance minister Basil Rajapaksa also cannot travel outside the country without the court’s permission.
The move came after Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country and moved to Maldives and then to Singapore.
The attorney general had requested for a travel ban on the 17 individuals, citing that they need to be present in Sri Lanka for the investigations on the attacks on GotaGoGama and MynaGogama as it appears that they conspired and planned those attacks.
Notably, Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned as PM only two months ago, after his supporters attacked some people protesting outside his brother, the then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s office.
