In yet another alarming breach of security at the sacred Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, a devotee from West Bengal was apprehended for attempting to enter the temple premises with spectacles fitted with a hidden camera.
The incident occurred near the western gate of the temple, where Singhadwar Police intercepted the individual based on suspicious behaviour.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered the concealed camera embedded in the frame of the spectacles. The youth was immediately detained, and his mobile phone was seized for forensic analysis. Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the motive behind the act and whether it is part of a larger surveillance attempt.
This incident follows a similar case just a day earlier when a man from Gujarat was caught with spy camera-equipped glasses inside the temple complex. Both cases have raised serious concerns over the misuse of modern surveillance gadgets in high-security religious zones, where photography and videography are strictly prohibited under the Temple Act.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the temple and has urged devotees to respect the rules and spiritual ethos of the shrine.
