Actor-producer Soubin Shahir has been denied permission to travel to Dubai for an award show on September 5 due to an ongoing financial fraud case linked to the 2024 Malayalam film Manjummel Boys.
The Ernakulam Magistrate Court rejected his plea to relax bail conditions for international travel.
Soubin, his father Babu Shahir, and co-producer Sean Antony have been under investigation since July, following a complaint by Siraj Valiyathura, who alleged that the producers promised him a 40% profit share on his ₹7 crore investment but failed to pay. The producers have denied the allegations, stating delays occurred because the investment was not provided on time.
Soubin was questioned at Maradu police station and submitted all requested documents and his mobile phone as part of the investigation. He clarified that he was not arrested and had been granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court.
Manjummel Boys, directed by Chidambaram and starring Soubin along with Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, and others, grossed ₹167.1 crore in India and ₹240.5 crore worldwide. Soubin’s latest appearance was in the Tamil action thriller Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, and Shruti Haasan.
