A land dispute in Koraput district escalated into a fatal assault on Thursday, resulting in the death of a young man and critical injuries to his father.
The victims, Dhanurjay Nayak and his son Shiva Nayak, were attacked with sharp weapons by five assailants in Fangiguda village under Gujuniguda Panchayat, Bishungpur Police Station, Borigumma Block.
Dhanurjay Nayak is the husband of Kamala Nayak, the elected councillor of Ward No. 10 in Koraput Municipality. The attackers allegedly struck both men with machetes, leaving Shiva fatally wounded and Dhanurjay severely injured.
Local residents rushed the victims to the Borigumma Community Health Centre. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were transferred to Koraput District Hospital. Shiva’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was referred to Visakhapatnam, where he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
Dhanurjay remains under treatment at Koraput Medical College with deep head injuries and multiple wounds across his body. Following a written complaint filed on Friday, Bishungpur Police launched an investigation and visited the crime scene. Authorities have assured swift action and stated that the accused will be apprehended soon.
