The IDCO Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar came alive on Saturday evening with the grand inauguration of “Sisir Saras–2026,” a nine-day mega fair dedicated to showcasing rural handicrafts, handlooms, and indigenous products.

Organised by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department, the event was launched by Minister for Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Gokulananda Mallik.

In his address, Minister Mallik described the fair as a powerful symbol of self-reliance, emphasising its role in empowering rural communities. “Sisir Saras is more than a marketplace; it reflects the spirit of self-sufficiency at the grassroots level,” he said. The event aims to connect rural producers, particularly women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and traditional artisans, directly with urban consumers, fostering economic independence through their unique skills.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das commended ORMAS for its commitment to preserving Odisha’s cultural heritage. She noted that the fair not only promotes traditional craftsmanship but also creates sustainable employment opportunities by exposing local products to a broader national audience. Hon’ble MLA Shri Ananta Narayan Jena echoed these sentiments, highlighting the fair’s significance in strengthening the rural economy.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Monica Priyadarshini, CEO of ORMAS, while Sanjeeb Kumar Singh, Additional CEO, offered the vote of thanks. This year’s edition transforms the venue into a vibrant “Mini India Market,” featuring artisans and producers from all 30 districts of Odisha and 20 other states across the country. With over 340 stalls displaying a diverse array of goods, visitors can explore GI-tagged items such as Sambalpur and Subarnapur handlooms, Koraput’s Kalajeera rice, and Sundargarh’s millet products—all embodying the “Vocal for Local” ethos.

The fair sets an ambitious business target of Rs. 30 crores, underscoring its potential to drive economic growth. Beyond shopping, the event offers a holistic experience with numerous food counters serving regional cuisines, selfie corners for memorable photos, and dedicated play zones for families. Daily cultural evenings will feature performances by renowned artists, including Bollywood singer Divya Kumar, alongside a special tribute to the late Odia singer Humane Sagar.

Organisers have prioritised visitor comfort and sustainability, ensuring the venue remains clean and plastic-free. The approach roads are adorned with traditional Jhoti art, while amenities like drinking water stations, ample lighting, and stringent security measures enhance safety and accessibility. The fair is open to the public daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will run until January 18, 2026.

Sisir Saras–2026 stands as a testament to Odisha’s commitment to rural empowerment, blending commerce, culture, and community in a celebration of India’s diverse artisanal traditions.
