Malkangiri: Several cadres of the military wing of outlawed CPI (Maoist) were injured in an exchange of fire with the security forces in Malkangiri on Wednesday.
The exchange of fire occurred during a search operation carried out by the joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DFV) in the forest.
According to the police, the encounter took place in Kulabedha forest under Mathili police limits after the Maoists opened fire on the troops.
The jawan also retaliated in which some rebels sustained injuries. However, the injured ultras managed to flee into the dense forest.
The security forces have recovered an INSAS rifle along with 34 rounds of bullets, magazines, a kit bag, digital camera, live magazines, and other Maoist articles. There was, however, no report of any death sustained by the forces in the gun battle, police said.
