Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested a senior clerk-cum-cashier and a peon, both the office of Superintending Engineer (SE), RW (PH) Division, Bhubaneswar, while taking Rs 20,000 bribe from a contractor for facilitating the release of his pending bills.
According to a Vigilance Directorate press release, Sr. Clerk-cum-Cashier Sadasiba Sahoo, posted at office of Superintending Engineer (SE), RW (PH) Division, Bhubaneswar and Pradipta Kishore Dash, Peon of the same office were apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.20,000 from a complainant (Contractor) for facilitating release of his pending bills towards execution of sanitary works of a Govt. building.
Based on a complaint, a trap was laid today, wherein the accused Sr. Clerk-cum-Cashier Sadasiba Sahoo, and Peon Pradipta Kishore Dash, were caught by a team of Odisha Vigilance in the office room while demanding and accepting a bribe
Cashier Sahoo accepted the demanded bribe money from the complainant and handed over the same to Dash, Peon. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dash and seized in the presence of witnesses. Both the hand wash of Sahoo and Dash gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming their acceptance and handling of bribe money.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the parental house of Sahoo at Tiadisahi under Sea Beach in Puri and his office room, the Vigilance said.
Both the accused persons, Sadasiba Sahoo, Sr. Clerk-cum-Cashier and Pradipta Kishore Dash, Peon have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.06 dated 18.03.2024 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation, the Vigilance added.
