Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Korei MLA Sanchita Mohanty passed away at her residence in Bhubaneswar on Friday after a prolonged illness, party sources confirmed. She had been unwell for several months and was undergoing medical treatment.
Mohanty’s passing marks the end of an important chapter in the political landscape of Jajpur district, where she remained a respected and influential leader of the BJP for decades.
She represented the Korei Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2009. During her tenure as a legislator, Mohanty was known for her active participation in organisational responsibilities and her consistent engagement with people at the grassroots level.
Key Role in BJP’s Growth in Jajpur
Within the BJP’s Jajpur district unit, Sanchita Mohanty was regarded as one of the party’s senior and prominent leaders. She played a significant role in strengthening the party’s organisational structure during its formative years in the region.
Even after completing her term as an MLA, Mohanty remained closely associated with the party. Sources said she continued to guide party workers, maintained regular interaction with local leaders, and stayed involved in organisational activities.
Her political journey was closely linked with the expansion of the BJP’s presence in Jajpur and neighbouring areas during the early 2000s.
According to party sources, Mohanty was battling age-related and other health complications. She breathed her last at her Bhubaneswar residence in the presence of family members.
