In preparation for the inauguration of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Janata Maidan today, security measures have been significantly heightened across Bhubaneswar. The event, which celebrates the contributions of the Indian diaspora, has drawn delegates from over 75 countries.
A robust security blanket has been put in place, with over 70 platoons of police forces deployed at strategic locations. Personnel from the Special Protection Group (SPG), National Security Guard (NSG), Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are also on duty to ensure the safety of the VVIPs and attendees.
Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh emphasized the seamless coordination between state and central security agencies. “We are fully prepared with our security arrangements for the Pravasi Divas convention,” he stated. Quick-reaction teams and anti-sabotage squads have been activated, and patrolling has been intensified across the city.
The city is under extensive CCTV surveillance, complemented by human intelligence teams. Helpdesks have been installed at Janata Maidan, hotels, tourist locations, and other key areas to provide immediate assistance to visitors. A training session for personal security officers (PSOs) was also conducted to enhance event security.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” will feature various cultural programs, exhibitions, and plenary sessions. President Droupadi Murmu will deliver the valedictory address and confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards to distinguished members of the Indian diaspora.
