12 schoolchildren had a narrow escape after the Bolero vehicle transporting them lost control and overturned into a roadside field filled with mud due to heavy rains in Jharigaon Block under Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, the incident occurred between the tribal villages of Kodabhatta and Gobari, where the vehicle struggled along a slippery road before toppling off. Fortunately, the muddy terrain cushioned the fall, preventing any severe injuries.
Local sources confirmed that the students were on their way to Alfa English Medium School in Dhodra. As the school van was returning from Kodabhatta, the driver lost balance on the rain-drenched path. Nearby villagers rushed to the scene and helped safely rescue all the children.
Of the 12 children onboard—6 from Kodabhatta, 3 from Chhotaguda, and 3 from tribal Kodabhatta—three sustained minor injuries. The school authorities were informed, and another vehicle promptly arrived to take the children to school. Later, parents gathered at the school and brought their children home.
Parents, including Vijay Buxi, expressed concern over the poor condition of rural roads and the safety of school transport, especially during the monsoon season.
The school management has reportedly initiated steps to review transportation safety measures following the incident.
