The Supreme Court on Monday stayed defamation proceedings against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over his remarks alleging that the Indian Army was “thrashed” by Chinese troops during a border skirmish in Arunachal Pradesh in December 2022.
The case stems from statements made by Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, which were alleged to be derogatory towards the armed forces.
During the hearing, the bench cautioned Gandhi, saying:
“You are the Leader of Opposition; make your statements in Parliament, not on social media,”
according to PTI.
The court’s order grants temporary relief to Gandhi while the matter continues to be under judicial consideration.
