A man accused of murder was injured in a police encounter near Khanduala under Dhanupalli police limits in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accused, Md Samad, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and is currently undergoing treatment at VIMSAR Burla.
According to police sources, Samad and his brother, Md Wasim, were allegedly involved in the fatal stabbing of Asad Khan, a garage worker, on Monday evening. The incident occurred near a stadium where Khan was intercepted and attacked while returning home with his monthly stipend.
Following a complaint lodged at Dhanupalli police station, a special team was formed to apprehend the suspects. During the operation, Samad reportedly fired two rounds at the police, prompting a controlled retaliatory response that led to his injury. Wasim managed to escape the scene.
Police recovered a 7.6mm pistol and seized Samad’s motorcycle. Although several accomplices were reportedly present, the FIR currently names only Samad and Wasim. The encounter site has been sealed for forensic investigation.
