Eminent writer and translator Suvash Satpathy has been selected to receive the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2024 for Odia Language.
The Sahitya Akademi Executive Council, chaired by Academy President Madhav Kaushik, has announced the recipients of the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize.
Subhash Satapathy is a distinguished figure in the literary world, having previously received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award. His notable works include translations such as Sansara,” “Purnima Raatrira Abhisara and Other Stories,” “Samudra Kulara Gaaon,” Khushwant Singh’s stories, M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s stories, and “Bibhajan.” He currently serves in the editorial department of the Odia daily newspaper, Prameya.” The jury for the Odia language translation award comprised Ameresh Patnaik, Saini Mahakud, and Monalisa Jena.
The announcement also mentioned that while the awards for Nepali and Sanskrit languages will be declared later, there will be no award for the Urdu language this year. This information was shared by Dr. K. Srinivasa Rao, Secretary of the Academy, in a press release.
Each recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize will be awarded a copper plaque and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 at a special ceremony. Books published between 2018 and 2022 were considered for the 2024 Translation Prize.
