In a surprising turn of events, the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) announced the postponement of the 2025 SAFF Championship to 2026.
Initially planned as a home-and-away format, the tournament was later been shifted to Sri Lanka as a centralised venue. However, that plan has now been shelved, leaving fans in suspense about the new venue and dates.
This decision was made to ensure smoother arrangements for the championship and provide member associations ample time to prepare. “With 2026 being a FIFA World Cup year, careful attention needs to be paid to finding an appropriate timeline and venue for the SAFF Championship,” stated SAFF officials.
India, the record holder with nine SAFF Championship titles and the reigning champion, will continue to be under the spotlight as the football community waits for further updates.
