The Kamakhyanagar Excise team seized brown sugar worth Rs 60 lakh in a major breakthrough against illicit trade in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
Officers arrested two suspects while another managed to escape with contraband valued at Rs 1 crore.
Excise officials raided a rented house in Mundideuli Sahi under Kamakhyanagar police limits after receiving a tip-off. During the operation, they arrested Mamata Sahu and her son Akash Sahu. However, Mamata’s other son, Bikash, fled by jumping over a wall and carrying away a large quantity of brown sugar.
Investigators identified the accused as residents of Galu village under the Kamakhya police station. Sources confirmed that the family had been involved in the brown sugar trade for some time.
Authorities stated that the seizure marks a significant step in curbing narcotics trafficking in the region. The excise team continues its investigation to uncover more details about the network and track down Bikash, who remains at large.
Officials emphasised that the crackdown demonstrates their commitment to dismantling illegal drug operations in Odisha. They assured that further raids and surveillance will follow to prevent the spread of narcotics in the district.
