A disturbing incident has shaken Rourkela city after a Class 10 minor girl was allegedly abducted and assaulted while on her way to school.
The girl, a resident of Jamberna village under Bisra police station, had left home on her bicycle to attend classes but never reached school.
When she failed to return, her family began searching and lodged a complaint with the police. Later, she was found in a critical condition in a nearby forest. She was rushed first to Bisra hospital and then to Rourkela Government Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Family members alleged that the girl was subjected to sexual assault before her death. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The incident has sparked outrage and grief in the local community, with demands for swift justice and stronger measures to ensure the safety of school‑going children.
Authorities said forensic and medical examinations will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances of the assault. Senior police officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible once the investigation identifies the accused.
