Bhubaneswar: Resentment is now brewing among people over the steep rise in the prices of petrol and diesel for the past couple of days.
On Saturday, petrol and diesel prices were increased by 86 paisa and 85 paisa per litre, respectively.
In Bhubaneswar, petrol prices is now sold at 109.68 per litre and diesel is now available at Rs 99.38/ litre. It is pertinent to mention here that petrol prices have gone up Rs 7.90/ litre in Odisha.
In Rourkela, petrol now costs Rs 110.60 per litre while the prices of diesel has crossed Rs 100 per litre.
The hike in fuel prices comes at a time when essentials like oil, tea and pulses have started pinching pockets. And the worst part is that it comes at a time the majority of people are struggling with financial woes even though the Covid situation is gradually coming under control.
The fuel price hike has not only affected the lives of daily wage earners, but also low-salaried, middle-class families struggling to make ends meet.
The fuel price hike has a ripple effect on the cost of other essentials due to rising transportation charges.
