Odisha Vigilance officials have apprehended Revenue Inspector Sashi Bhusan Behera and private individual Bishnu Ballav Khatua on charges of bribery.
The duo was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 60,000 to facilitate favourable reports in four mutation cases at Gandanali Revenue Circle, Hindol Tahasil, Dhenkanal district.
Following complaints of undue delay and demands for bribes, Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Behera and Khatua inside the office chamber. The entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized. Authorities have initiated searches at three locations linked to Behera to investigate disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway to uncover the extent of corruption involved.
This development underscores the ongoing efforts to tackle corruption in Odisha’s governance system, ensuring transparency in public services.
