A woman and her husband have been arrested in Sundargarh district on Sunday for allegedly killing a man who had previously raped her and later threatened them to withdraw the case after securing bail.

The deceased, Raj Kumar Yadav (28), was shot with an arrow before his body was disposed of in a nullah. Yadav, a native of Bihar, had raped the woman in January 2023 and continued to assault her over the next four months. Unable to bear the ordeal, the woman informed her husband, who filed a complaint with the police, leading to Yadav’s arrest. He was booked for rape and sent to Rourkela Special Jail.

Six months ago, Yadav secured bail and began threatening the couple to withdraw the case. On Saturday evening, Yadav arrived at the couple’s house and issued threats. The woman alerted her husband, who then shot Yadav with a bow and arrow, killing him on the spot. The couple disposed of the body in a nullah. Locals later discovered the body and informed the police, leading to the couple’s arrest and confession.
