Heavy nor’wester rain on Tuesday led to widespread waterlogging across the city, disrupting daily life and leaving residents stranded in waist-high water.
Low-lying areas such as Friends Colony, Saanta Sahi, and Gamhandia bore the brunt of the downpour, as roads turned into waterlogged pathways.
In Chhatra Bazar, ongoing box drain construction exacerbated the situation, with trapped rainwater unable to flow out effectively. Despite the rain stopping over 12 hours ago, waterlogging continues to persist, adding to residents’ distress. Many locals voiced frustration over the inadequate drainage system, blaming civic authorities for years of negligence.
“The box drain has been here for decades, but it’s of no use,” lamented a resident. “We have been facing this problem for the last 25 years. The municipal officials need to act before the next downpour worsens the situation.”
As frustrations mount, locals urge the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to implement immediate drainage solutions before another spell of rain hits the city.
