In a swift and efficient operation, forest officials successfully rescued three elephants that had fallen into an open well in Tinkbir (Baranali) village under Reamal Range in Deogarh on Tuesday evening.
According to Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) Miss Sushree G, a local villager reported the incident at 4:15 PM, alerting authorities that three elephants from a herd of 18 had accidentally fallen into the pit while moving through the nearby Budido Beat area.
The Range Officer Reamal, Deputy Range Officer, Forest Guard of Tinkbir Beat, and the entire forest staff and squads of Reamal Range responded immediately, reaching the spot and beginning the rescue operation without delay.
Using a JCB machine, the team expertly created a ramp alongside the well, allowing the trapped elephants to climb out safely. The entire operation was completed by 5:10 PM — within just 50 minutes — ensuring minimal stress to the animals.

All three elephants emerged unharmed and quickly rejoined their herd. No injuries were reported among the elephants or the rescue personnel.
Such incidents underscore ongoing human-elephant interactions in the region, where herds frequently move through villages in search of food and water.
The prompt action by the forest staff prevented a potential tragedy and demonstrated effective wildlife conservation efforts on the ground.
