Qatar’s top negotiator, Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, has expressed growing frustration over the sluggish pace of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, as violence continues to escalate in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to AFP, Al-Khulaifi emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying,
“We’re definitely frustrated by the slowness, sometimes, of the process. This is an urgent matter. There are lives at stake if this military operation continues day by day.”
The first phase of a temporary truce ended in early March, but efforts to secure a long-term agreement have since stalled. Israel resumed its airstrikes shortly after the ceasefire expired, intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Al-Khulaifi confirmed that Qatar remains committed to brokering a renewed agreement, despite mounting challenges.
“We’ve been working continuously in the last days to try to bring the parties together,” he said. “And we will remain committed to this, in spite of the difficulties.”
