Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu updated the Rajya Sabha on significant progress in the Puri Airport project, representing a major advancement for Odisha’s aviation infrastructure.
The airport has received multiple clearances, marking a milestone in its journey toward becoming a pivotal aviation hub in eastern India.
An ‘in-principle’ approval has already been granted for the airport’s construction. The Ministry of Defence has issued its no-objection, paving the way for land transfer and strategic coordination. Furthermore, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) has recommended environmental clearance, addressing one of the most critical regulatory checkpoints.
The proposed Phase 1 of the Puri Airport is designed to handle 4.6 million passengers annually. Once operational, it is expected to significantly boost connectivity, tourism, and economic activities across Odisha and neighbouring regions.
Set against the backdrop of growing air travel demand and regional development goals, the Puri Airport project is well-positioned to transform the state into a strategic gateway for eastern India.
