Excitement is building for the 15th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2025, set to take place from 1st March to 12th March at the Tau Devi Lal Hockey Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana. This year, the tournament will feature a new promotion and relegation system, enhancing the competitive spirit of the games.
A total of 28 teams will participate, divided into three divisions: Division A, Division B, and Division C.
Division A: The Battle for the Title
- The top 12 teams, including defending champions Hockey Haryana, will compete for the championship trophy.
- Teams are divided into four pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the knockout rounds.
- The winner will lift the championship trophy, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to Division B.
Division B: The Quest for Promotion
- Nine teams will aim for promotion to Division A.
- Teams are divided into two pools, and promotions and relegations will be determined by league standings.
Division C: Rising Through the Ranks
- Seven teams will compete for promotion to Division B.
- The top two teams will secure promotion based on league standings.
The new points system will award three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey stated, “The introduction of the promotion and relegation system is a significant step in raising the standard of hockey across the country. Every match now holds importance, whether it’s a battle for the title or to avoid relegation.”
Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh added, “This format change increases the stakes and promotes healthy competition among the teams. We are excited to see how the tournament unfolds with this new structure.”
