Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the much-anticipated Subhadra Yojana today during his visit to Odisha. This significant event marks the introduction of a flagship social welfare scheme aimed at empowering women across the state.
The Subhadra Yojana, named after Goddess Subhadra, the revered sister of Lord Jagannath, is designed to provide financial assistance to women between the ages of 21 and 60. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive ₹10,000 annually, distributed in two instalments of ₹5,000 each on Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day. The initiative aims to support over one crore women by 2028-29, promoting economic independence and empowerment.
Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the scheme at a grand ceremony at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, where over 50,000 people are expected to gather. The event will also be broadcast live across various panchayats and blocks in the state to ensure widespread participation and awareness.
In addition to launching the Subhadra Yojana, the Prime Minister will unveil several infrastructure projects, including new railway lines and national highways, further contributing to the state’s development.
The Subhadra Yojana is a key campaign promise of the newly-formed BJP government in Odisha, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The scheme’s successful implementation is seen as crucial for securing the support of women voters, who have traditionally backed the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
As the Prime Minister celebrates his 74th birthday today, this launch is expected to be a landmark event, reinforcing the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and economic development in Odisha.
