President Droupadi Murmu today inaugurated the Mahasamadhi centenary observance of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala, Kerala.
The event celebrated the life and teachings of one of India’s most influential spiritual leaders and social reformers.
While addressing the gathering, President Murmu praised Sree Narayana Guru as a saint, philosopher, and visionary who transformed India’s social and spiritual fabric. She emphasized his powerful message of “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind,” which continues to inspire movements advocating equality and compassion.
She further highlighted that Sree Narayana Guru dedicated his life to liberating people from ignorance and superstition. He recognized the divine essence in every living being and promoted knowledge, self-purification, and universal love as the true paths to liberation.
Moreover, President Murmu acknowledged the institutions he established—temples, schools, and social centers—as vital platforms for literacy, self-reliance, and moral upliftment, especially among marginalized communities. She noted that his writings in Malayalam, Sanskrit, and Tamil blended deep philosophical insight with simplicity, reflecting his profound understanding of human life and spirituality.
Concluding her speech, the President asserted that Sree Narayana Guru’s teachings hold even greater significance in today’s fragmented world. She affirmed that his vision of unity and mutual respect offers a timeless remedy to modern-day conflicts and reminds us that all human beings share the same divine essence.
