The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu concluded her visit to Portugal with impactful discussions and engagements.
Meeting H.E. José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, the President of Assembleia da República, in Lisbon, the two leaders agreed to foster closer ties between the parliaments of India and Portugal to deepen people-to-people connections.
The President also held talks with the Prime Minister of Portugal, H.E. Mr. Luis Montenegro. Both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in trade, defence, science, technology, and energy, paving the way for a brighter future for bilateral relations.
In another highlight of the visit, President Murmu, accompanied by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa, toured the renowned Champalimaud Foundation. Here, she explored groundbreaking research in neuroscience, oncology, and automated medicine delivery, while commending Indian researchers for their contributions in bridging scientific advancements between the two nations.
During her final engagement in Lisbon, President Murmu attended a reception hosted by the Ambassador of India to Portugal. Addressing members of the Indian community, she lauded their success and efforts in promoting Indian culture abroad. Reassuring her commitment to the diaspora, she encouraged them to continue being ambassadors of India’s diversity and shared values.
The President wrapped up her Portugal visit with a vibrant display of cultural and diplomatic camaraderie before departing for Slovakia to continue her international mission.
