Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government will soon start vaccinating pregnant women in the State, informed Health Director Bijay Mohapatra today.
On June 25, the Centre had said that pregnant women can and should be vaccinated. Following this, a new set of guidelines was also been issued.
Mohapatra said COVID-19 cases are in surge in B category districts due to uncontrolled movement.
“The virus is getting the right kind of environment in those districts for transmission. To strike a balance between life and profession, the government has allowed relaxations in some parts of the State. People should strictly adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines to keep the infection under control,” said Mohapatra.
Currently, as many as 500 Covid patients are on ventilators and 2,000 patients are undergoing treatment in intensive care units. The infection rate will decline if we all strictly follow COVID appreciate behaviour, he added.
