Titilagarh: One of the 2 under-trial prisoners (UTPs) who escaped from the Titilagarh sub-jail earlier this month has been arrested, informed Bolangir SP Rishikesh Khilari while addressing a press meet at Titilagarh police station premises today.
According to reports, two under-trial prisoners, Sobhaban Rana (28) and Sumit Bihari (23), lodged at the Titilagarh sub-jail in Bolangir district, managed to escape by jumping the boundary wall of the jail premises at around 8 pm on March 9.
While the jail authorities and the police were on the lookout for the escapees, the police managed to apprehend Sumit Bihari. After the arrest, the police recreated the prison break scene.
During the preliminary investigation, the police came to know that three local people assisted the prisoners to escape by providing them with cell phones and a motorcycle outside the jail.
After escaping the jail, the UTPs drove to Bhubaneswar via Berhmapur and then fled to Delhi. However, the police team managed to arrest Sumit.
Sumit Bihari had been incarcerated at the Titilagarh Sub-Jail for the past two years in connection with a murder case. Likewise, Sobhaban Rana, who is still absconding, is facing charges related to a murder case linked to a human sacrifice incident in Sindhekela and has been in jail for the last four years.
Three days after two UTPs escaped from Titlagarh sub-jail, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prisons, Sambalpur, Kulamani Behera suspended jail warden D Dora on charges of negligence of duty.
