A police constable in Kalahandi district has been suspended after allegedly duping a fish trader of nearly Rs 10 lakh by promising a government job for his son.
According to reports, Bhola Nath Teji of Bodelbandh village, under Kalampur police station, runs a fish business. During his visits, he came into contact with IRB constable Dilip Bag, then posted at Thuamul Rampur police station. Bag allegedly assured Teji that he could secure a job in the Horticulture Department for his son.
Trusting him, Teji paid a total of ₹9 lakh in 45 instalments. Later, Bag was transferred to Athe mpani police station, but the promised job never materialised. When Teji demanded his money back, Bag stopped answering calls and avoided him.
Teji lodged complaints at Ampani and Kalampur police stations, but no action was taken initially. Finally, he approached the Kalahandi SP, who ordered an inquiry. Investigators confirmed that Bag had taken the money. He returned ₹2 lakh but failed to repay the rest.
Following the probe, the SP suspended Bag for misconduct and fraud. Authorities said the remaining amount must be repaid within a stipulated time.
The case highlights growing concerns over job fraud in Odisha, where vulnerable citizens are often targeted with false promises of employment.
