Bolangir: Police on Friday conducted a surprise raid on Bolangir jail, which recently made headlines due to a clash between two criminal groups.
Led by SP Rishikesh Khilari, two platoons and nine officers conducted the inspection this morning.
Senior officials reported the seizure of numerous prohibited items, including bidis, cigarettes, lighters, trimmers, and certain food items, all of which are banned according to the jail manual. It was noted that the trimmer, originally issued to the jail’s salon, somehow ended up in one of the cells, raising concerns.
It is worth mentioning that, there were reports of group clashes inside the jail 4-5 days ago. There was a conflict between the notorious criminals Bablu Mahanand, Bishal Suna and Chhotu Khan. The group appeared to have clashed inside the prison over an outside conflict.
SP Khilari’s unannounced visit today aimed to ascertain how the confiscated items entered the jail. The authorities have assured the media that a thorough investigation will be conducted and necessary actions will be taken. Sarbeswar Sahu, the jail superintendent, confirmed that an inquiry into the matter is underway.
