Cuttack: Police have busted a gang of mobile phone snatchers while arresting two persons involved in the racket in Cuttack district’s Jagatpur area on Saturday.
The accused identified as Dilip Kumar Das (46) and Dipak Kumar Satpathy (26).
Reportedly, the matter came to the fore after an elderly person lodged a complaint with Jagatpur police alleging that his gold chain was snatched away by unidentified men on April 21.
Acting on the complaint, police launched a probe and arrested two persons and seized gold chains weighing 32 grams and seven mobile phones from their possession.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the mobile and chain snatching gang, the police said.
Das is an inter-district veteran criminal with having a long criminal record. He is wanted in Kendrapara and Cuttack rural and other district police. More than 40 cases are pending against the accused and more than 20 NBWs are also pending against them, the police added.
