Odisha Vigilance apprehended Nupur Seth, Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Gyan Gram Panchayat in Bargarh district and her husband Bed Prakash Biswal, in a corruption sting operation.
The duo was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a complainant seeking rightful inclusion in the PMAY scheme.
The accused initially demanded Rs. 10,000 but reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 5,000 after negotiations. The complainant, unable to meet the demand, reported the harassment to the Vigilance department. Following a planned operation, the Vigilance team nabbed the accused after they accepted the bribe, with the money being recovered from their possession.
Simultaneous searches are being carried out at two properties linked to Smt. Seth as part of an investigation into disproportionate assets. A case has been registered under Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No. 3/2025 U/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
