New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) has agreed to set up an independent committee, that will be headed by a retired SC judge to probe lapses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab on January 5.
Reportedly, the three-bench judge, headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana, asked the Centre and Punjab governments not to go ahead with their inquiries in the matter.
The decision came after the Punjab government urged the apex court to set up a court-monitored probe into the incident.
It is pertinent to mention that Prime Minister’s convoy was stranded on a flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur after which he returned from poll-bound Punjab without attending the planned events, including a rally.
