Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan between Israel and Hamas, calling it a step toward lasting peace in the region. Modi also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his leadership during the negotiations.
Modi Supports Gaza Peace Initiative
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said,
“We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu.”
He expressed optimism that the initiative would bring much-needed stability to Gaza. Modi added that the release of hostages and the provision of humanitarian assistance would “bring respite to people and pave the way for lasting peace.”
India’s Call for Calm and Dialogue
India has consistently maintained that it supports all diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East. The government has also urged both sides to prioritize dialogue, humanitarian aid, and the protection of civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
Trump’s Announcement of the Peace Deal
The statement from PM Modi came hours after Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a US- and Qatari-brokered peace deal.
The agreement reportedly includes the release of hostages, partial troop withdrawals, and a framework for future negotiations aimed at ending hostilities in Gaza.
Global leaders have welcomed the move, seeing it as a crucial first step toward de-escalation in the region.
