Kashmir: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several development projects and at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium on Thursday (March 7), marking his first visit to Kashmir since the government’s revocation of Article 370. The constitutional provision granted special rights to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Modi took part in the “Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir” programme at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium. He launched initiatives worth nearly Rs Rs 6,400 crore aimed at boosting the agri-economy in the union territory.
With the Lok Sabha election looming and opposition parties pushing for an announcement on Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the prime minister’s visit carries political significance regarding potential statements.
The BJP-led Centre nullified the provisions of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, dividing the erstwhile state into the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
It is to be noted that BJP President JP Nadda was also scheduled to address the conference of the party’s National Scheduled Caste Morcha in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra today. UP CM Yogi Adityanath will also be attending the conference. Ministers and public representatives of scheduled societies were also expected to participate. Over one lakh workers were invited to the program.
