In a historic move to enhance connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two groundbreaking infrastructure projects – the Chenab Rail Bridge and the Anji Bridge.
These engineering marvels are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, aimed at revolutionising travel in the region.
The Chenab Bridge, standing at a towering height of 359 meters above the river, holds the distinction of being the world’s highest railway arch bridge. Spanning 1,315 meters, this architectural feat will significantly reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar, making rail journeys more efficient. Similarly, the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, is designed to navigate the challenging terrain and bolster railway infrastructure.
In addition to these rail projects, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate multiple development initiatives worth over ₹46,000 crore. These include road widening projects, flyovers, and the foundation stone laying of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, the first medical college in Reasi district.
With the inauguration of Vande Bharat trains in the region, these advancements are expected to improve mobility, spur economic growth, and elevate Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity to new heights.
