Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday disbursed the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, transferring over Rs 20,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore farmers across India.
The instalment—part of the Rs 6,000 annual assistance provided under the flagship initiative—aims to support farmers with timely resources for agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and other essentials. Each beneficiary received Rs 2,000 as part of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism that defines the Modi government’s welfare model.
PM Modi termed the scheme a pillar of “Viksit Krishi for Viksit Bharat”, emphasising transparency, speed, and farmer-centric delivery. With this latest transfer, the total financial outlay under PM-KISAN has crossed Rs 3.90 lakh crore since its launch in 2019.
Odisha Impact:
In Odisha, over 34.85 lakh farmers benefited from the current disbursal, reinforcing the state’s significant share in the national agriculture landscape.
The PM-KISAN scheme continues to serve as a financial lifeline for small and marginal farmers, ensuring cash flow during critical cropping seasons and boosting rural resilience.
