Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention today at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The event, which celebrates the contributions of the Indian diaspora, saw participation from delegates representing over 75 countries.

As per reports, PM Modi’s carcade set out from the Governor’s house for Janata Maidan amid top security arrangement and reached Janata Maidan. Then, while the guests including PM Modi were on the dais, first the welcome song ‘Basudhaiva Kutumbakam’ was presented. It was followed by welcome address by the External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. He addressed the gathering of the Pravasi Bharatiyas, the NRIs present on this occasion.
The speech by the EAM was followed by the address by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. He expressed his happiness over presence of Prime Minister Modi on this occasion.
Later, Chief Guest Christine Carla Kangaloo, the president of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago then addressed the diaspora at the conference.
PM Modi inaugurated the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conference at about 10.45 am today. He waived the green flag and inaugurated the Pravasi Bharatiya Express.
It is to be noted that PM Modi arrived in Bhubaneswar yesterday.
In his inaugural address, PM Modi highlighted the significant role of the Indian diaspora in global development and emphasized the importance of reconnecting with their roots. He praised the diaspora for their contributions to India’s growth and their efforts in enhancing India’s image worldwide.
The three-day convention includes various cultural programs, exhibitions, and plenary sessions focusing on the theme of “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal.” The event also features promotional stalls from various union ministries and state governments, showcasing India’s diverse cultural heritage and economic opportunities.
CM Majhi expressed pride in hosting the PBD convention in Bhubaneswar for the first time, calling it a memorable occasion for both the delegates and the people of Odisha.
The convention will conclude on January 10, with President Droupadi Murmu delivering the valedictory address and conferring the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards to distinguished members of the Indian diaspora.
