Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Sri Lanka’s most prestigious civilian honor, the Mithra Vibhushana medal, in recognition of his commitment to strengthening the historic ties between the two nations.
This accolade acknowledges his efforts in promoting cultural and spiritual connections, fostering economic collaboration, and enhancing regional security.
Conferred during his first visit to Sri Lanka in his third term as prime minister, this award highlights the shared heritage between the two countries. Designed to symbolize their enduring bond, the Mithra Vibhushana medal features the Dharma Chakra, representing shared Buddhist traditions, alongside elements such as the Pun Kalasa for prosperity and the Navarathna for friendship.
This event marks another milestone in Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic journey, as it is the 22nd international recognition of his leadership. His visit comes at a time of renewed leadership in Sri Lanka, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently assuming office.
The three-day visit focuses on reinforcing partnerships across various sectors, including culture, infrastructure development, and regional cooperation, strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual respect that have united India and Sri Lanka for centuries.
