Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian blind women’s cricket team on Monday for winning the inaugural T20 Blind World Cup 2025.

He praised the team’s unbeaten run and their victory over Nepal in the final at Guwahati.

“Congratulations to the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series,” Modi wrote on X. He added, “This is indeed a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hard work, teamwork and determination. Each player is a champion! My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours. This feat will inspire generations to come.”

India displayed a commanding performance throughout the tournament. In the final, the Women in Blue restricted Nepal to 114/5 in 20 overs with disciplined bowling. They then chased down the target in just 12 overs, winning by seven wickets. Phula Saren top-scored with an unbeaten 44, guiding India to a comfortable finish.

Earlier in the semifinals, India defeated Australia, while Nepal overcame Pakistan to reach the final. Co-hosts Sri Lanka managed only one win, against the USA, in the preliminary round.

The victory marked more than just a trophy for India. It represented a landmark moment for blind women’s cricket worldwide. The team’s journey inspired fans and showcased extraordinary grit, unity, and purpose. Players demonstrated not only skill but also resilience in overcoming challenges.

This triumph also advanced inclusivity in Indian sports, paving the way for greater recognition and opportunities for visually impaired athletes. The Indian blind women’s cricket team’s success stands as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
