Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is mulling to increase Plus 2 seats in the higher secondary schools as the state registered a whopping 96.4 pass percentage in the annual Matriculation examination, the results of which were declared on May 18.
State School and Mass Education minister Pramila Mallik on Saturday informed that a record number of 5.12 lakh students have passed matriculation in the state this year while there are only 5.9 lakh seats for enrollment in the +2 first year.
Therefore, as the number of seats is less compared to the pass rate, it may be increased Mallik informed.
The School & Mass Education Minister further said that the state government will increase the number of seats if required.
“Not even one student will be deprived of Plus 2 education,” she said adding that the number of seats will be increased according to the number of students applying in different districts.
Ms. Aswathy S., IAS Commissioner-Cum-Secretary has said that the government will take a positive decision to increase the number of seats.
Out of a total of 512,000 matric students who have passed out, many will be enrolled in Plus 2 courses while many could join ITI, Diploma and Polytechnic courses.
Similarly, the students who have passed Class 10 from CBSE and ICSE affiliated schools will study Plus 2 in the same school. ‘If we consider all these things, the number of seats available in government schools will be sufficient,” said Ms. Aswathy S.
