In a significant bust, Bhubaneswar’s Chandrasekharpur Police arrested a fraudulent placement officer for allegedly duping students under the guise of job placement through a private training institution.
The accused, identified as Rahul Roy (alias Suprabhat Bhattacharya), aged 29 and originally from West Bengal, was taken into custody following a detailed complaint lodged by a 23-year-old student, Subhasree.
According to the case (354/25), the complaint revealed that Roy, working as a placement co-ordinator at National Aviation Academy Pvt. Ltd., along with colleagues, including Shruti Dutta and other officials, promised lucrative job placements during a training program between March 12 and April 8, 2025. Exploiting the students’ aspirations, the accused reportedly collected ₹56,120 from Subhasree and ₹1,10,000 from another student, Sanghamitra, under false assurances of employment.
Investigations uncovered the use of forged documents and fraudulent communication to gain the students’ trust. Based on credible sources, the police executed a raid, leading to Roy’s arrest. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and was later produced in court.
Authorities are now expanding their probe to track down other associates and verify if more students were defrauded under similar pretences.
