The Odisha Transport Department imposed a hefty fine of Rs 2,19,200 on a picnic bus returning from Sambalpur after officials found multiple violations during a routine check at Aintha Pali Square.
The bus, bearing registration number OR 23 C 6626, had travelled from Jharsuguda with passengers returning from a picnic. During inspection, authorities detected six separate violations, including incomplete documents and overloading.
Transport officials immediately levied the fine and arranged another bus to ensure passengers reached home safely without inconvenience.
The enforcement drive highlighted the department’s strict monitoring of traffic and transport rules across the state. Officials stressed that such measures aim to safeguard passengers, especially during the picnic season when buses often carry extra loads.
Department sources described the action as a precautionary step to raise awareness about road safety and compliance. The crackdown reinforced the government’s commitment to enforcing transport regulations and preventing accidents caused by negligence.
